Dale Stephanos is an award-winning illustrator who has been making a living drawing pictures in one form or another since 1982. His work has appeared nearly every major national publication including Rolling Stone, Newsweek, Time, Sports Illustrated, Golf Digest, The New Republic, Mad Magazine, and major newspapers such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and The Boston Globe. His client list also includes the United States Postal Service, The US Open, and many others.
The Betty White stamp he created for the USPS in 2024 threw Dale into the national spotlight, with appearances and interviews with national media outlets including NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox, NPR, and dozens of newspapers and websites nationwide.
Dale’s illustrations have won awards from Communication Arts, American Illustration, The Society of Illustrators, 3x3, Leurzer’s 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide, and Illustrators West—earning gold, silver, and bronze medals. In 2025 Dale won the artist of the year award from the Massachusetts Center for the Arts.
Beyond freelance illustration, he has owned and operated a gallery on Boston’s tony Newbury Street and regularly exhibits in galleries nationwide.
Passionate about education, Dale teaches illustration, digital imaging, and foundation classes at Suffolk University and Visual Arts Passage, having started his teaching career at Lyme College of Fine Arts at The University of New Haven.
Amid the challenges of the pandemic, he returned to school, earning a BA in Graphic Design and Photography with Summa Cum Laude honors in April 2023 and an MFA in Illustration at the University of Hartford in July 2025.
